40,752 fans watched an exciting game at Petco Park. The San Diego Padres
topped the Arizona Diamondbacks by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

San Diego scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning. Mark Teixeira led off and keyed
the rally when he singled. Raul Ibanez got his turn next, but he was a
strikeout victim. Garret Anderson then reached on an error. After another
out, Mike Fontenot came to the plate and smacked a single. That early
scoring was all that Joe Blanton(4-4) needed. San Diego finished with 10
hits in the victory.

Blanton was helped out by Chad Qualls who recorded his 10th save. The losing
pitcher was Nick Blackburn(1-1). The San Diego ballclub's record now stands
at 22-20. With the loss Arizona now has a record of 1-3, worst in the
division.
