The blistering-hot San Diego Padres tallied 4 runs in the 1st inning and had
very little trouble at Petco Park downing the Washington Nationals. The
score was 9 to 4.

Will Venable provided much of the offense. He tripled plating all three
baserunners in the 1st inning, tripled bringing in a run in the 3rd inning
and doubled which scored a run in the 6th inning. San Diego and Washington
each finished the afternoon with 12 hits.

The victory went to Shawn Estes(2-0) who went 5 and 2/3 innings, allowing 4
runs. Tom Gorzelanny(0-1) was hit with the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 3
hits in 2/3 of an inning.
