Juan Uribe went yard as the San Diego Padres won in dramatic fashion over the
New York (NL) Mets by a score of 6 to 5 at Petco Park.
San Diego had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.
Nick Hundley got things going when he slapped a base-hit. Orlando Hudson was
next and he drew a walk. Mike Fontenot then laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Mark Teixeira came up and he doubled making San Diego the victor and
beginning a joyous home town celebration. San Diego finished with 11 hits in
the victory.
The winning pitcher was Chad Qualls(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an
inning. Hideki Okajima(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. Tim Stoops was
in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his
feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you
this much - I know how my counterpart, Rick Kozan, feels right now - and it's
not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of
these!'
