WEB GEMS- Top 7th: Javier Vazquez robbed Garret Anderson of a base hit.

Javier Vazquez racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts at Great
American Bpk where the Cincinnati Reds beat the San Diego Padres 3 to
1.

Vazquez(4-0) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the San Diego offense. He
allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 2.08 to
1.80. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.

Carlos Zambrano(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 8 innings and
surrendered just 2 hits and 3 walks. Tim Stoops was upset after the game. 'I
don't like to complain but did you see that umpires strike zone?', he said.
'Maybe they ought to start calling the strike zone the way it's printed in
the rule book.'
