Jason Giambi slammed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Great American Bpk where the
Cincinnati Reds beat the San Diego Padres in 10 innings by the score of 9 to
8.
The score was knotted at 8 after nine innings. Cincinnati was victorious in
the 10th inning. Matt Stairs drew a walk. Ben Zobrist stepped up next and
he doubled. Two outs later Giambi came up and he drew a walk to load the
bases. Garrett Atkins came up and he singled making Cincinnati victorious to
the delight of the the home town crowd. Cincinnati had 16 hits overall,
while San Diego had 10.
Russ Springer(1-0) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Chad
Qualls(0-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 3 hits
in 1 inning.
Giambi said, 'It was just all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate
tonight. You've got to take advantage of mistakes when you can. A couple
pitches were definitely up a little bit - right in my zone.'
