John Lackey took a no-hitter into the 7th inning at Petco Park as the
Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Diego Padres by the count of 4 to
3.
Lackey(1-0) pitched well for Philadelphia in their victory. He was reached
for 3 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 2/3 innings and gave up 2 homeruns. The
right-handed Lackey lost his no-hit bid when Mike Fontenot homered with
nobody out in the 7th inning. San Diego had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.
Lackey got relief help from Trevor Hoffman who gained credit for his 1st save.
Chris Volstad(1-1) took the loss. He pitched 6 innings giving up 7 hits and
1 walk.
