At Petco Park, the San Diego faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's
duel. Brandon Backe(1-1) finally bested his Philadelphia counterpart, Joel
Pineiro(0-1), by the score of 2 to 1.

Backe gave San Diego a solid outing. He allowed 5 hits and 3 walks in 7 and
2/3 innings. San Diego had only 5 hits for the game.

Backe was helped out by Chad Qualls who recorded his 8th save. Pineiro was
the loser. San Diego continued their winnings ways improving their record to
a division leading 17-5. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. With the
loss, Philadelphia has a record of 0-3 lately, 0-3 overall.
