Mike Fontenot had 2 base hits at Petco Park as the San Diego Padres beat the
Florida Marlins by the count of 4 to 2.
San Diego had 3 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning when they
had 4 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Mark Teixeira who
brought a roar from the partisan Petco Park fans when he doubled plating two
runs. Chad Qualls earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 9th save.
Kevin Slowey(4-1) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Rich
Harden(0-1) was the loser. He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings giving up 6 hits and
4 walks.
'After the stretch we have been through lately, this victory is especially
sweet' offered Tim Stoops. Now, we just have to make this the norm - not the
exception!'Sunday, June 14, 2009
