Marcus Thames rocketed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Petco Park where the
Chicago (NL) Cubs beat the San Diego Padres 13 to 6.
Thames enjoyed a big day at the plate. He stroked a one-base hit in the 1st
inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 5th inning and belted a three-run homer
(his 6th of the season) in the 6th inning. Despite scoring in 5 separate
innings, San Diego could not get the win.
Jason Bergmann(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 7 innings.
Brandon Backe(3-3) took the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3
innings.
Thames was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a box-score' he joked, 'I want
to see how that game looks on paper.'
