The Cincinnati Reds edged the San Diego Padres in 10 innings at Petco Park by
the score of 4 to 3.
The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Cincinnati won the game
in the 10th inning. Robinson Cano doubled. Jason Varitek next to the plate
and he smacked a single. One out later, Willy Taveras got his turn next, but
he was a strikeout victim. Freddy Sanchez stepped in and he singled. Both
teams finished the game with 8 hits.
The winning pitcher was Russ Springer(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings. Matt Capps earned the save, his 1st. Joe Blanton(7-6) was the
loser.
