40,190 fans watched an exciting game at Busch Stadium. The San Diego Padres
topped the St. Louis Cardinals by the slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.
Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings. San Diego won it in
the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Humberto Quintero smashed a
solo-shot out of the park (his 1st of the season). The teams had been locked
in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
Duaner Sanchez(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings. Chad Qualls got the save, his 2nd. The losing pitcher was Chad
Gaudin(0-1) in relief.
