Designated hitter Raul Ibanez had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Citizen's Bank Park
where the San Diego Padres beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 5
to 4.
San Diego came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 8th inning
scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Orlando Hudson led off and he drew a
walk. Mark Teixeira stepped up next and he drew a walk. Ibanez then laced a
single. After an out was recorded, Adam Jones came to the plate and was
walked intentionally to load the bases. Edgar Renteria stepped into the box
and delivered a one-base hit. Juan Uribe contributed to the rally and
grounded into a double play. Despite losing, Philadelphia out-hit San Diego
11 to 6.
The victory was credited to Joe Blanton(1-0) who went 8 innings, allowing 3
runs. Chad Qualls earned his 2nd save. Javier Lopez(0-1) ended up with the
loss in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 1 hit in 1/3 of an inning.
