Raul Ibanez rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the San Diego Padres defeated
the New York (NL) Mets by a score of 7 to 4 at Shea Stadium.
Ibanez had a good evening at the plate. He delivered a solo blast in the 2nd
inning, cracked a solo homerun (his 2nd of the season) in the 4th inning and
stroked a single plating a run in the 7th inning. San Diego out-hit New York
(NL) for the game, 14 hits to 7.
The winning pitcher was Joe Blanton(1-0) who allowed 4 runs in 5 and 2/3
innings. Blanton got help from Chad Qualls who earned his 1st save. Hiroki
Kuroda(4-3) absorbed the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 9
innings of work.
