Carlos Zambrano reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts at Shea Stadium where the
San Diego Padres beat the New York (NL) Mets 6 to 1.

Zambrano(1-0) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the New York (NL)
offense. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. San
Diego finished with 12 hits in the victory.

Odalis Perez(2-3) was tagged with the loss. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 10 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.

Zambrano, when asked about his 10 strikeout performance noted, 'The important
thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team?
But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'
