Chris Volstad took a no-hitter into the 7th inning and Garret Anderson had 2
base hits and 3 RBI as the San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers
by a score of 7 to 4.
Volstad(1-0) pitched a fine game. He allowed 3 hits and 5 walks in 6 and 2/3
innings. Volstad racked up 7 strikeouts. The right-handed Volstad lost his
chance for a no-hitter when Ryan Garko homered with one out in the 7th
inning. San Diego ended up with 13 hits for the game while Los Angeles(NL)
had 8.
Chad Qualls got the save, his 3rd. Jon Garland(0-1) was the loser. San Diego
scored big getting 7 runs off him in 6 and 2/3 innings.
