One run was the difference at Petco Park as the San Diego Padres defeated the
Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers 4 to 3.
San Diego came up with 2 runs in the 6th inning. The key at-bat was by Mark
Teixeira who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he cleared the
fences for a two-run home run (his 2nd of the season). San Diego managed
only 5 hits on the afternoon.
Doug Waechter(1-0) went 1 inning allowing 1 run for the win. Chad Qualls
gained credit for his 4th save. Randy Johnson(0-1) absorbed the loss. He
gave up only 3 hits and no walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
