WEB GEMS- Bot 5th: Bobby Crosby robbed Raul Ibanez of a base hit.
Nick Hundley hit a homerun as the San Diego Padres topped the Washington
Nationals by a score of 7 to 6 at Petco Park.
San Diego took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 6th inning scoring a
single run on 2 hits. Washington had a chance to come back in the 9th but
they came up short.
The win was credited to Joe Blanton(1-1) who went 6 innings allowing 5 runs.
Chad Qualls recorded the save, his 5th. Edinson Volquez(0-1) was tagged with
the loss. He was unable to control the San Diego offense and allowed 11 hits
and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Blanton said,
'this was one of those times.'
