Edgar Renteria had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Petco Park as the San Diego Padres
pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the New York (NL) Mets by the count of
5 to 4.
San Diego erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. Mark Teixeira led off and keyed the rally when he
slapped a base-hit. After an out was recorded, Orlando Hudson stepped in and
he bombed a two-run dinger (his 3rd of the season) giving San Diego the win
much to the delight of the home town crowd. San Diego had 12 hits overall,
while New York (NL) had 9.
Nick Masset(2-1) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Huston Street(0-1)
suffered the loss in relief. Tim Stoops was ebullient after the game, 'It's
great to win a hard fought game like that. Our guys just weren't going to be
denied. And did you see the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very
enjoyable win tonight!'
