Jake Peavy mowed down 11 San Diego batters at Petco Park as the Florida
Marlins beat the San Diego Padres 3 to 2.
Peavy(1-0) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
San Diego batters. He allowed only 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. San
Diego was retired without difficulty in the bottom of the 9th.
Joe Blanton(3-3) was tagged with the loss. Despite taking the loss, he
whiffed 9 batters in 6 and 2/3 innings. 'Peavy pitched a gem of a game', Tim
Stoops recounted. 'He kept our batters off balance the entire game.'Monday, June 8, 2009
