39,768 fans were treated to a fine game at Petco Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The San Diego Padres won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
The score was tied at 4 after nine. Finally, San Diego pulled the game out in
the 13th inning. Mike Fontenot tripled. After an out was recorded, Nick
Hundley stepped in and he stroked a single resulting in a mighty exciting win
for San Diego and the 39,768 home town fans in attendance. San Diego and
Houston each finished the night with 14 hits.
The victory was credited to Chris Volstad(2-1) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Horacio Ramirez(0-1) suffered the loss in relief.Tuesday, July 14, 2009
